The black background appears to be the same size as the video element but rendered in landscape. You can easily see this effect by opening this demo from the WebRTC site: https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/resolution/ I have this issue on an iPhone Xs running iOS 15.0.2. I have no idea if it occurs on other devices.
