The conversion process is expensive. If the PostScript image is loaded as a sub-resource, other elements have to drawn beside this image. Converting the image to a PDF on a separate thread will allow other elements in the page to be drawn. This should lower the page loading time since the conversion happens only once when the image is loaded for the first time.
