    <thetext>In https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170955, I made WebKit input event behavior compliant with the input events spec, if we consider insertion via the emoji picker to be &quot;similar to autocorrect/spell checking&quot; (the platform uses the same codepath to insert text in both cases). However, this policy isn&apos;t very useful, particularly to clients like Gmail that need to distinguish autocorrection and spell checking from other forms of text insertion. So we should explore limiting &quot;insertReplacementText&quot; to autocorrection and spellchecking.</thetext>

Whoops, the client in question is actually Google Docs, not Gmail, though I&apos;d imagine it would be helpful for Gmail as well!</thetext>
