Tiger displays images in Spotlight

Leopard displays images and other media in Spotlight and Finder

SVG is a popular graphics format

SVG is native to Safari-webkit and renders on Mail-webkit

Browsing SVG files is less than satisfactory unless they are rendered

Users with low literacy, wishing to add SVG symbols to emails will need to be able to find them.

please find attached just one recent comment on the need for symbols in email.

"The largest single group of pupils with additional support needs
in Scotland are those with moderate/severe learning difficulties (25%), who
are likely to benefit from symbol support."

not sure whether Cocoa needs a separate bug.

however it should be evident that when searching directories from within an application such as Mail,

it will be helpful if SVGs are rendered.

All these "other applications need to support SVG better" bugs belong in Radar. We don't need a copy in WebKit's bugzilla.

The way that applications support SVG on the mac is to use WebKit to do the rendering AFAIK WebKit is currently the only SVG renderer available on Mac OS X (besides ASV).

eric, you may not need this bug on webkit, but what about others like me who don't have access to radar?

cheers

But it's not a bug in WebKit. WebKit supports SVG and it's up to the client apps to use that support. Hence why it belongs in radar and not bugzilla - it doesn't have anything to do with the open source code.

well it's easy to say it's nothing to do with the code.

however in practice, if there's a failure to adopt, the product usually has responsibility...

maybe this bug should be moved to evangelise?

You do have access to file your own Radar bugs. Use <https://bugreport.apple.com/>. If you don't have an ADC account, you may create a free "online" account using <https://connect.apple.com/>.
